I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Life of Kale

How to give kale a longer fridge life!
This little treatment will make your kale less bitter too...

Ingredients:
6-8 cups torn kale
2 tbsps olive oil
2 tbsps lemon juice
1 tsp salt

So I had this big haul of purple kale from my garden. Actually this is only half of it, my daughter took half of it off my hands (Thanks Brittany!)

Start by removing all the stems from the washed kale leaves. You can keep the stems to use in a vegetable broth or compost them.

Tear the leaves into pieces then massage in the olive oil, lemon juice and salt. Rub it around and gently into the leaves with your hands. I actually think this is a nice little treatment for your hands as well, lol!
You'll know the leaves have been massaged enough when they turn darker. It only takes a few minutes.

Just pack them in a clean jar...that whole pile of kale went into one mason jar! Refrigerate and add to your salads as needed.
The lemon juice helps to preserve it along with the salt.
