As far as comfort food goes, there's nothing better than a creamy rice pudding. And this one is so easy to make too!
1 cup long grain rice
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
4 cups milk
2 cups 10% cream
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp nutmeg (optional)
Mix everything together in your slow cooker. Set on high for 3 1/2 hours.
Stir after the 1st hour.
When it's done you may want to stir in more milk or cream for the consistency you like.
Serve warm or chilled.
Mom's are always running, am I right? And when you hit menopause, you're running hot and cold! So welcome to Hot and Cold Running Mom...where you'll find mostly easy recipes (because who has time for complicated ones!), helpful household hints and a few crafts. Note: NOT just for Menopausal Moms!
I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Make Your Own Strawberry Electrolyte Replacement Drink
Whether you've been working out or just working out in the garden you need hydration. Blend these ingredients together and keep chilled in the fridge.
And if you are going through chemo treatment and have been told to drink lots of water, but you don't like drinking water, then try this just to change things up.
Pour over lots of ice and relax.
1 - 310 ml can coconut water
1/2 cup chopped strawberries
1/2 cup sparkling berry-flavoured water (or just plain water)
pinch sea salt
1 tsp lime juice
2 tsps honey
1/2 cup orange juice

Funky Chemo Caps to Crochet
If you love someone who is facing chemo treatments, why not crochet a cap to keep their noggin cozy.
I used different yarns for different caps, but mostly used sayelle. I even tried one (the little red and blue variegated one) in cotton thread. Depending on your yarn, and how tightly you crochet, you could stop increasing around 59 sts instead of going to 64 sts.
Change colours or even embroider some love onto them for interest.
What you'll need:
100 grams worsted or sayelle yarn
6.00 crochet hook
yarn needle
Ch 2
Rnd 1 - 8 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rd 2 - Sc in 1st st, 2 sc in following sts, repeat to end (12 sts)
Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Pin a safety pin to the beginning of the row so you'll easily see when you've gone around each time. After every few rows, move the pin up your work.
Rnd 3 - Sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end. (16 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 4 - Sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end. (20 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 5 - Sc in each of 1st 4sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end. (24 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6 - repeat rnd 5
Rnd 7 - repeat rnd 5
Rnd 8 - Sc in each st. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 9 - Sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end. (39 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 10 - Sc in each of 1st 5 sts, 2 sch in following st, repeat to
end (45 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 11 - Sc in each of 1st 5 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end. (52 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 12 - Sc in each of 1st 6 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end (59 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 13 - Sc in each of 1st 10 sts, 2 sc in following st, repeat to
end (64 sts) Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 14 - Sc in each st. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 15 - 33 - Sc in each st, Join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Fasten off and weave end in.
Note:
To join wool or change colour, cut yarn 3-4 inches from work and weave it into the new wool using the yarn needle. Pull new yarn through the previous one and continue crocheting.
But for this extra funky one I knotted the ends instead and when finished even added a few more pieces by looping through the work and tying off.
A finished cap should measure about 9" across the bottom when folded in half as pictured and 7" long. Of course everyone's head is different so adjust as needed.
